East Legon, One of Accra's Poorest.........

East Legon, one of Accra's and for that matter Ghana's rich neighborhoods is also one of the city's poorest in relation to electricity supply. Within the past 6 months of spending about 78% of my day in this area, I have observed not more than 40% of electricity supply in a week.
It is not uncommon to hear generators running at the least expected places like barber shops virtually all the time.

The constant power outages in the vicinity has caused significant rise in cost of production for companies situated in this area, which is then transferred to consumers who must patronize good and services in this area.

Getting a hair cut for instance, is twice as expensive as the average cost in other parts of the city. Even cost of roasted plantain, which has no direct relationship with electricity, is 100% above the average.

Some speculations are that, residents of this neighborhood possess sophisticated and high electricity consuming gadgets and appliances, which causes electricity consumption in this area to rise significantly.
Whatever the reasons might be, if you consider living in East Legon, a generator should be "numero uno" on your "to-buy" list if you must live comfortably.
