TOP 5 TIPS TO SLAYING A RED CARPET
If you're one of those who have had an opportunity to mingle with the "celebs" but couldn't make it because of the "I have nothing to wear", I feel your pain.
You do not necessarily need a million bucks; just a rearrangement of your outfit ideas.
GOOGLE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
We all have a few favorite clothes stashed under our portmanteaus waiting for some fancy occasion that never really comes. Yet when an opportunity finally comes, we step out looking like a startled baby hen.
Google stuff like "female palazzo pants style ideas" or "jeans and polo top style inspirations". Look through the images and pick out one that matches your body, color and personality. If you'll kill an outfit, it is your personality and vibrancy that'll make it happen.
SECOND OPINION
Even stylists have close friends or relatives that give second opinions about their outfit combinations. Pick out 3 or 4 outfit mix and ask someone whose judgement you absolutely trust and is confident in; whilst learning to accept criticisms and new ideas wholeheartedly.
I know sometimes we can be 100% convinced about your combinations, but remember, once you ask for that second opinion, be sure to take it in good faith, else next time, he/she will watch you step out looking like a melancholic hawk or owl.
WEAR A HEEL
A high heel is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to add some suave and glamour to your outfit. Every lady owns a decent high heel; whether a block, wedge or silhouette one, just pull it out from under that bed (yes, we know you hardly wear them) and clean it good with water and petroleum jelly (if need be) and you're good to go.
Otherwise, a beautifully bejeweled sandal wears well with a flowing flowery maxi dress to give off a chic bohemian style.
MAKE UP
Yes Alicia Keys is going all natural with no make-up, but madam, you are not Alicia Keys! You are Nabi Mina, with unpardonable sunburns and acne. Get a fancy yet simple make up, even if it means calling up that friend of yours that is good at making up. Be sure to meet up with her with some candy, chocolates, KFC or call credit, else be sure she'll be "out of town" the next time you need her.
Please pardon my too-know self which didn't allow me get a professional make-up; I'm a professional in the making (still gloating unconsciously😉)
GINGHAM-IZE SOMETHING
Gingham typically describes checkered fabric. The bold color complimenting the usual white, makes the gingham in the fabric.
So basically get one or two pieces that stands out and emboldens the entire outfit; if you're not wearing anything African, accessorizing with feather earrings, beaded necklaces and a cane purse helps. I chose a quiet rare GTP fabric that got everyone inquiring about its make. Also, my avant garde head wrap added some "va-va-voom" to the outfit. A few others thing my drape kimono (which I never stopped flipping, hehe) also added some sassiness.
PS: If your "Ghana Must Go" bag is filled with "kanzo" clothes, abeg, forget these tips, you need Baba God!
